February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration Awareness Month

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss, and affects more than 2 million Americans older than 50 years of age.

The image pictured gives an example of without and with AMD.

Here are a few of the symptoms:

  • Difficulty seeing in the center of your vision while driving, reading, or looking at faces
  • Difficulty focusing in low light
  • While focusing on straight lines, they may appear wavy, or with pieces missing
  • Changes in the appearance of colors

The Amsler grid can be a helpful tool for those who wish to screen their vision for changes. Find it along with directions here:

This screening is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye examination. Call our office at 928-779-7000 to make an appointment for your annual visit.
